“Local Helping Local” Builds Community in Southern Maine

As a Maine business, we live here, too, so we value strong communities which enrich and contribute to our daily lives. This not only includes financial wellness opportunities dedicated to giving everyone a chance to succeed financially but also supporting organizations that make where we live vibrant and strong.

Town & Country’s award-winning ‘Local Helping Local’ program reinforces the credit unions focus of giving back to our members and the communities we serve. We are committed to creating partnerships and building relationships with local organizations and businesses that are critical to strong communities. Our decisions are intended to benefit and support members, non-profits, communities and other organizations.

In 2025, we provided more than $300,000 in direct and in-kind financial support to 225 non-profits, businesses and organizations across southern Maine. We do this not because we have to, like many other financial institutions are required to do by law, but because it’s the right thing to do. We know that the more we can support our neighbors and community, it will make it a better place for all generations and positively impacts today and the future.

Through this program, we have touched the community in many ways:

  • Battled food insecurity by providing support through food drives, financial donations and volunteer hours to local non-profits including Preble Street Food Security Hub, Locker Project, Southern Maine Agency on Aging, South Portland Food Cupboard and others to help ensure individuals and families in need have access to nutritious meals.
  • Launched an initiative aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of screenings for all kinds of cancer. Partnering with the Maine Cancer Foundation, we introduced a public service campaign called ‘Check ME’ funding hundreds of TV spots reinforcing early detection of all types of cancer.
  • Helped to tackle the affordable housing challenge, Town & Country partners with and supports the work of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland through financial donations, staff volunteer time to help build much needed homes and by providing the financing of numerous homes across the region.
  • Partnered with the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland supporting the pet food pantry and month-long efforts that included financial support and awareness to help find homes for our furry friends.
  • Teamed up with Portland Trails to sponsor the organizations Earth Week celebration while adopting one of the popular trail routes near the Presumpscot River in Portland.
