Friendship House
Community impact is at the heart of Town & Country’s Better Neighbor Fund, and in 2025, members made their voices heard in a powerful way. The top vote-getter of the year, Friendship House, earned a $4,000 Better Neighbor Fund grant, recognizing the critical work happening every day in South Portland.
Located on Lincoln Street in South Portland, Friendship House provides a safe, supportive home for men in recovery from substance use disorder. For nearly 40 years, the organization has focused on helping residents rebuild their lives with stability, dignity, and hope. Friendship House offers long-term housing in a structured, sober environment, ensuring that no one is turned away simply because they lack financial resources.
Leading this mission is Herb Blake, Executive Director since 2012. Under Herb’s guidance, Friendship House has remained true to its founding values while continuing to serve men who are working to achieve lasting recovery and independence. His commitment to compassion, accountability, and community has helped make Friendship House a vital resource for South Portland and beyond.
The $4,000 Better Neighbor Fund grant will support daily operations and essential needs from housing and utilities to basic living expenses allowing residents to focus on recovery and building a stronger future.
