At Town & Country Federal Credit Union, recognition is never something we take for granted. Being named Best Maine-based Credit Union and Best Home Mortgage Lender in the ‘Best of the 207’—not just once, but for four consecutive years—means a great deal to all of us. Especially when that recognition comes from standing alongside every bank and credit union in the state, it is both humbling and motivating.
We appreciate the honor, and we appreciate what it represents: trust. Trust that our members place in us every day when they choose us for their financial needs, their homes, and their futures. That trust is not something we take lightly—it is something we work to earn through service, relationships, and doing right by the people we serve.
But if I’m honest, while awards like these are meaningful, they are not the ones we value most.
The highest compliment we can receive is when a member feels confident enough in their experience to refer someone they care about. When a member tells a friend, neighbor, coworker, or family member, “You should check out Town & Country,” that is the strongest endorsement we could ask for. That is local referring local in action—and it reflects the strength of the relationships we’re building across our communities.
To show our appreciation for that trust, we also reward referrals. When a member refers someone who becomes a Town & Country member, both the referring member and the new member receive a $100 gift card to a local southern Maine business. It’s a simple way to say thank you while continuing to support the community we all share.
That kind of connection can’t be manufactured or voted on. It must be earned—one conversation, one loan, one mortgage, and one relationship at a time.
We see it every day: members helping members, neighbors supporting neighbors, and people choosing to keep their financial lives close to home with a team that knows them by name. That is what defines us far more than any award ever could.
Still, we are proud of the recognition. It reflects the hard work of our team, the loyalty of our members, and the shared belief that a credit union should be personal, accessible, and rooted in community.
So, thank you—for the awards, for the trust, and especially for the referrals that continue to grow our cooperative the way it was always meant to grow: locally, authentically, and together.
