‘Local Helping Local’ is looking to support non-profits with $25K in grants

In 2010, Town & Country launched its ‘Better Neighbor Fund’ to provide dedicated funds and support to non-profit organizations in southern Maine. What was ground-breaking about it was that all nominations were submitted by the community followed by online voting to determine the recipients who would share in the $25K in grants awarded.

While a number of similar programs have followed, Town & Country continues to lead the way thirteen years later. Though now part of the credit union’s larger ‘Local Helping Local’ initiative, the Better Neighbor Fund program remains true to its roots and still seeks nominations for consideration for area non-profits each September. The first 25 non-profits nominated who meet our simple criteria will then move on to the public vote during the month of October, and this vote will determine which organizations will share in the $25,000 awarded.

Nominations for the 2023 Better Neighbor Fund opened on September 1st and have been coming in steady ever since. However, there is still time to nominate a non-profit for a Better Neighbor Fund grant, and organizations may self-nominate.

Deadline for nominations is September 22nd, or until the first 25 organizations have qualified. Voting will begin on October 1st.

Since 2010, Town & Country has awarded $325,000 to 120 non-profits in Cumberland and York Country through the ‘Better Neighbor Fund’.
