Community Connections

Message from Dave Libby, President and CEO

One of the things I value most about Town & Country is our commitment to honoring the people and communities that have helped make us who we are.

Recently, we had the privilege of dedicating the Connolly-Couture Bridge along the Eastern Trail, named in honor of two individuals who gave more than 85 years of combined volunteer service to Town & Country — Ed Connolly and Wil Couture.

Ed and Wil were more than dedicated volunteers and Board members. They were community leaders who believed in giving back, bringing people together, and making a difference. Their years of service helped guide Town & Country through decades of growth, while their commitment to their communities extended well beyond the credit union.

That makes this bridge especially meaningful.

Spanning the Nonesuch River and connecting South Portland and Scarborough, the Connolly-Couture Bridge is part of the Eastern Trail Alliance’s long-awaited “Close the Gap” project. It represents a connection between communities, but it also represents something bigger — the impact we can have when we work together to create something that benefits generations to come.

Town & Country has been proud to support this effort from the beginning. In 2017, we made a $100,000 pledge to the Eastern Trail Alliance’s Close the Gap campaign, at the time the largest philanthropic gift in our history and the largest single donation ever made by a Maine credit union.

As we watched the Connolly and Couture families take the inaugural crossing of the bridge, I was reminded of why honoring community matters. People like Ed and Wil dedicate their time, energy and talents without expecting recognition. But their contributions deserve to be remembered.

This bridge will serve thousands of people for years to come. And every time someone crosses it, they will be reminded of two men who believed in service, community and making a difference.

That is a legacy worth celebrating — and one we are proud to honor.

Dave
